You were the bomb in Con Air!

I just met Nicolas Cage.  Tres excited.  I never get to meet celebrities - and Pat O'Brien laughing at me screaming 'fuck' doesn't count.

I really don't want to work a PT job during the summer...  especially one that takes up all of my weekend time...  so I've resolved that after I buy my totally cute bike from there and 30% off, I'll be leaving HTO.  Not sure when I'll be buying the bike, but it'll probably be in the next month.  Here is a picture of my love:

It's a light blue retro-style cruiser - I'd actually put my basket on the back and replace the bell (as it currently sounds like a doorbell) but other than that, no other modifications needed.  Except maybe streamers on the handlebars ;-)  We have this bike currently in our store and every time I work, I always ride it around the store after closing.  This is the perfect bike for city riding and seeing as how I just learned to re-ride a bike the fat tires makes me feel like I'm not going to fall over.

Last minute spring cleaning
I forgot about one of the great benefits of being on Trim Spa - LOTS of extra energy.  So far this week I've done more housework than I did in the previous month.  My house looks fantastic, if I do say so myself.  I rearranged my room last night and finally started using the big TV that Joey and Lesley gave me which had been sitting on my bedroom floor for the last 3 months.  I also got around to taking pictures and posting some of our extra stuff on Craigslist and Freecycle today.  It's amazing what I can accomplish when I don't have to work at HTO, Dave's out of town, and I have the energy of a meth addict. lol  Teresa and I decided that we'll use whatever money we get from selling the stuff to throw a kick ass house party soon.  All of the stuff we're selling are things our friends gave us when we first moved in and needed furniture so I don't feel totally right about taking the money and buying myself clothes or something.

I'm pretty excited for tonight.  For the first time in a long ass time, my roommates and I are all going out together, with our respective SO's in tow.  We're headed to Eye Bar to shake our asses to The Freestylers.  Hooray!  I'm hoping I get to run into people I haven't seen in a while too.  It's been like four months since I went to a club and I'm really looking forward to catching up.

I'm also in the process of collecting all the ingredients to make a soy cheesecake.  This sounds like the absolute more horrid thing ever to me, but this is the cost of being in like, I suppose.

GO CALIFORNIA!!!
Just a quick note to say that this week has made me really proud of my home state : - )

As a loyal friend to all homo's, it's touching to read about all the weddings that are going on this week.  Hopefully one day all states will follow.  DC has a fairly high gay population so I'm crossing my fingers that none of my gays here will have to travel to California when they want to marry.

Chaz can talk me into anything - I fucking love that man.

I was already planning on getting my roots touched up, but we went even more platinum. He also talked me into cutting it all off and getting thick bangs. It's SUPER fucking short. Shorter than I've ever had it and I heart it a whole lot.

MIA
Just realized I'm going to be totally MIA from the internet for the next couple of weeks.  This weekend is the beach and I'll get back late Sunday night.  Monday and Tuesday I'll be in Richmond for a work trip - I'm working from home on Wednesday, then taking off early to go back to Bethany Beach with Chantal for Stacy's wedding.  I'm leaving directly from the beach house on Saturday to go Zorbing with Joey in the Smokey Mountains and won't be back at work until Wednesday, June 11th.

Hooray busy and fun weeks!

Four things that are making me happy today
1.  I love that I'm dating a man that's been to more gay bars than straight bars in the city.  My gays are a huge part of my life, and anyone I date is going to have to get used to that - with him, there's no getting used to anything.  His sister is lesbian, so he's been to a ton of gay bars and clubs, marched in pride, and is totally comfortable fitting into that aspect of my life.  While waiting on our table at Sushitaro last night, we stopped in at JR's so I could introduce him to Erin and David - two of my most important Mary's.

2.  I was treated to breakfast at The Diner this morning.  Such a great way to start a Friday.

3.  I'm leaving work early today to see Chaz!  Yay!  My roots are in desperate need of a touch up and with Stacy's wedding exactly a week away, this was the perfect opportunity to get a cut and color.

3.  After my appointment with Chaz, Joey and I will be driving to Delaware.  We're carpooling together and he's dropping me off in Dover at Stacy's house before he continues on to Rehoboth Beach.  Of course we'll be stopping at my all-time favorite fast food place, Sonic, for dinner.  YUMMY.

4.  Tomorrow morning I'm driving from Dover to Bethany Beach with three of my favorite girls ever - Stacy B., Stacy G, and Krissy.  I didn't realize the other Stacy and Krissy were also coming up this weekend (they're Stacy's other two bridesmaids) to help set up.  I fucking love these girls and we always have the best time when the four of us are together.

I feel like i haven't been updating all that regularly anymore.

Eddie Izzard on Thursday was fun.  I met up with my new gay, Chaz, for a night of sushi and comedy.  Eddie didn't dress if full drag, handled the hecklers quite well, and even made a quick reference to The Riches.  There were times when the comedy was a bit slow - and times that I was in danger of wetting myself.  Overall, a great evening and loved spending time with Chaz and seeing Eddie.

Friday night I took a half day from my full-time job and ran a bunch of personal errands.  It's amazing how much longer my weekend felt by adding a few more hours to it.  One of the errands was picking up my bridesmaid dress for Stacy's wedding.  It fits perfectly with no alterations required.  Hooray!  Best news ever.  I worked at HTO Friday night, went home, and promptly passed out.  I had a pretty tough week last week.

Saturday I worked at HTO during the day and brought Matty with me back to the house to hang out for the evening.  We made a yummy pasta dinner using the pasta sauce I bought at the Farmer's Market last week.  So delicious.  We also drank lots of beers and I passed out early.

Sunday I woke up bright and early to hike Old Rag for the first time this year.  Pictures will be posted at some point.  There was supposed to be a big group going, but people ended up canceling last minute due to poor weather reports.  The weather turned out to be GORGEOUS so Chantal and I decided to still go.  We got a spot in the upper parking lot (which cuts two miles off the overall hike) and ended up doing the hike in 5 hours - a new record for me considering we also took long breaks to take pictures, eat lunch, and lay out/tan at the top.  I climbed to the highest rock at the highest peak for the first time ever.  My fear of heights be damned.  My legs were wobbley, and I didn't actually stand up (more of sat down clinging to the rock for dear life) but it still counts and I'm super proud of myself.  We also met some cute boys on our way down and stopped at our normal half-way point for burger and beers on the drive home.

A great weekend and despite being sore today (but probably less sore than I ever have been after doing Old Rag), I think Chantal and I have decided that it's worth the time/money to do Old Rag every weekend this summer.  It would involve asking off every Sunday from HTO.  I'm thinking we could rotate Old Rag with kayaking (if it's a super hot day).  If we can actually do this, I predict that by the end of this summer I'll be in the best shape of my life, and that's worth the commitment to me.

TONIGHT!

YAY!!!!!  :-D

in honor of my love for eddie izzard (and to give a frame of reference for those of you who might not yet know who he is), a fabulous pic of the bloke:

I haven't been able to get confirmation of whether or not he'll be in full drag tonight.  Apparently ever since he got the role on The Riches, he's been less flamboyant about his love for cross-dressing.

Survive DC
For those of you looking for something a little different but totally fun to do in the city, insert Survive DC.  This is a game of tag played throughout the city - starting in Dupont and ending up about a block from my house in Shaw.

http://www.survivedc.com

It's on Saturday, May 3rd starting at 7 PM.  Obviously you can sign up to be a player, but you can also sign up to be a chaser, work a map point, or volunteer in other ways.  It's free and according to the website, you have to either run or use the metro to get to the different map points - at the end of the night, there will be a big party to celebrate finishing.  It sounds like such a great time.

I'm planning on being there - Teresa is with me too.  Anyone else?

A short update, with bullet points:

  • I went platinum last week.  I also figured out I've probably spent about $700 on my hair since the beginning of this year.  That's a lot of scratch, but at least my hair looks fierce.  I think I've been so proactive about going to the salon because my new hairstylist is such a great gay.  We bonded instantly but to keep myself from going broke I've decided to cut back on my visits to the salon and start hanging out with him outside of his work.  We're going for drinks this Saturday night and he's my date to see Eddie Izzard on May 1st.  Cannot fucking wait.  I'm so super psyched to have gotten Eddie tickets.
  • Still love working at HTO.  Still love it a lot, despite bullshit involving me having to work last Sunday and needing to cancel my hiking trip.  I'm going to have to make sure I pay close attention to the days I need off as it seems like my boss is making the schedule haphazardly without paying attention to my requests - not a good thing.  But the upside is that I've become pretty knowledgeable in footwear - sounds a bit lame, but I can now tell someone the exact right shoe or boot they should be wearing based on their width, arch, and gait and activity.  It's a good skill to have and I find it fascinating.
  • I really need to start back with working out on a more regular basis.  Stacy's wedding is less than two month away and I'm still about 15 lbs from my goal weight.  I started taking trimspa again, which has helped, but have yet to get my ass to the gym.  I really just need to buckle down all around.
  • I love Neil.  We went out last night on a date and he helped put some shit that I've been dealing with lately into perspective.  I really need to learn to stop blaming myself for other people's decisions.  It was fabulous to spend some quality time with my favorite fancy.  My favorite mary also joined us for a drink, and we met up with a couple more of they gays at Nellie's.  All-in-all a great night.
  • I have a new favorite song - Don't You Evah by Spoon.  I've been rocking out to it for the past couple of days.  Check it out - you'll heart it too.

Why Netflix is Awesome
Netflix is a great example of a company that provides superior customer service to its members.  In the year that I've been a member, I've had a couple of problems with my service, and here's how they've been handled:

  • Disk shows up, disk is scratched.  No problem - report the issue to Netflix, I have a new DVD the next day and I send both back in.
  • I mail my DVDs back, after two business days I notice that Netflix still hasn't received it.  I click one button on their website and *poof* another disk is on its way before they receive the ones I mailed to them.
And the most recent:

  • Last Thursday I mailed back two DVD's. Per my past experience, I expected to receive two new DVD's in the mail on Saturday.  When they still hadn't arrived and I hadn't received an email letting me know that they received my returned DVD's, Sunday night I went to their "report a problem" section on their website.  I was told two new DVD's would be mailed out on the next available business day.  Monday, no DVD's were mailed.  I went to the website and was told that they wouldn't be shipped until Tuesday.  I was briefly annoyed, but went about my day with no complaints.  Then today, I get an email from Netflix apologizing that they didn't send out the DVD's on Monday with a note that they'll be crediting my account a percentage for my inconvenience .
It's refreshing to see a company this is proactively trying to make their customers happy, as opposed to the reactive nature of most service companies

Ever feel like you have a thousand things going on and only about 2 hours to do them in?

If I had the money to do so, this is about when I'd take myself to the nearest spa and demand a day of pampering.

Just a quick update
  1. The party the weekend before last was awesome - thanks for all who came out!  I really want to throw another one soon - and we may get the opportunity to.  I'll fill everyone in on the details when and if it happens.
  2. Last week sucked ass.  Like big-time sucked ass.  However, some highlights included seeing my JJ  and seeing BAP, and celebrating Neil's birthday at Bistro du Coin,
  3. Saturday was the worst day of last week.  I spent the entire day in bed, or getting sick.  Some things just don't mix well and whatever I had on Friday night to drink, was just awful.  The boys ended up coming over late night on Saturday night, and even though I had been sick all day and couldn't keep any food down, it was fun having them there to make me laugh.
  4. I also managed to lose my check card in a cab on Friday night.  Luckily I figured it out immediately and called my bank.  Unluckily it's put me in a bad spot until I get my new check card in the mail.  One of the many downsides to having a bank that is not close at all.
  5. Uriel is my new favorite - anyone who can jam out to Ace of Base with me wins in my book.  Spent the evening last night hanging out at Joey and Lesley's with Uriel and Catie watching horror movies, eating kosher, and discussing poop - really just a typical Sunday night.
  6. If you're in need of a new hairdresser, check out Chaz Brooks at Salon Cielo in Dupont.  He is AMAZING.  I cannot say enough good things about him - he takes a lot of time with my hair, and has given me the most fabulous haircuts ever with very little input from me.  Yesterday he gave me bangs.  I've had side bangs for the past 8 months or so, but now have full frontal bangs, that can also be swept to the side to be thick side bangs - which is exactly what I wanted, but didn't know if it was possible.  I just love him and want to recommend him to everyone.

So that's pretty much my last week or so - I've been stressed at work and just about every bad thing that could happen to me, has happened to me.  This week should be better though - I'm hanging out with the boys at some point this week - we'll be grilling filet's at their place in Falls Church, seeing Matt Costa at the 930 club on Wednesday, and doing bowling with a bunch of friends on Friday.  I'll also be going down to VA Beach this Saturday for Kristen's birthday...  hopefully I can find someone to ride down with me, as that drive is incredibly boring.

Detroit!
Ever have one of those days where you're just so busy that you stop caring that you're busy and start slacking?  That's my day today...  and thus, you get an update.

The weekend was long, lovely, relaxing, and uneventful.  Thursday I took off work early and drove out to Detroit with Chantal to visit my sister.  The drive actually wasn't all that bad, and I'm glad that we had our own car while we were there so we could go off on our own.  It took us about 8 hours to get there, and luckily the snow held off until we were in my sister's town.

We spent the majority of our time there at my sister's place...  seeing as it was 10 degrees out, my sister is pregnant, and my niece is two and has way too much energy to sit at a restaurant or in a movie.  Lauren was entertainment all by herself though.  She's at a really fun age and is just learning to talk.  Here's a picture of the little terror:

She is so incredibly adorable.  My sister and brother in law spent the week before I got there teaching Lauren my name.  The thing is, she got a bit confused and kept calling Chantal and Ryan (my BIL's bff visiting from AZ) 'Darcy' too.

Saturday night we did manage to make it out of the house for a bit with the help of a baby sitter.  After a fabulous dinner we dropped the parents off and Ryan, Chantal, and I trekked into Detroit proper to check out a club there called Bleu Room: http://www.bleudetroit.com/

The club was on the smaller side, but I really enjoyed myself.  The headlining DJ, Thomas Emmanuel, played an awesome Electro set.  I got a chance to chat with him for a bit and I really like the fact that this club night (and him, more specifically) combines a lot of their shows with local artists.  Throughout the club was stunning original art pieces - it made for very interesting decor, though if I were an artist, the last place I'd want my pieces is in a smokey club.  No one really dances all that well in Detroit though - it's really weird to go to clubs in other cities, and have people comment on my dancing, where as compared to people in DC, I'm pretty mediocre.

The drive back on Monday sucked.  I hate the PA Turnpike with every fiber of my being.  Almost every time I'm on it, I either get snowed in, break down or lost.  This time, it just involved blizzard like conditions and my car getting tossed around the road like a leaf.  Ugh.  Other than that though, the drive was just long and incredibly boring.

So, as mentioned, this week is hell week at work.  Next week will also be a hellish week as I'll be traveling to NYC Monday and Tuesday, hosting one of my teammates at my office for a day full of meetings/training on Wednesday, leaving me only two days to do a weeks worth of work.  Perhaps after February, my life will somewhat return to normal again.

So hooray party this weekend!  If you haven't already officially gotten the evite, we apologize and probably didn't have your e-mail address or it was an oversight.  If you're on my friends list, you're invited - if you're interested in attending, let me know - put your email address here, and I'll add you to the evite.

Also hooray for seeing JJ and BAP next weekend!   Can't wait to see my lovely ladies - and especially cannot wait to help JJ celebrate after finishing the bar exam.

Dinner Parties
This past Saturday night Chantal and I hosted a dinner party at our place for both of our parents.  Neither had seen the new house since we moved in and considering that they used to be neighbors and hadn't seen each other in over 10 years, we figured it was a good idea.

It turned out to be a great idea.  Chantal is an excellent cook - and I love to bake.  We spent a lot of money and prepared a super fancy menu, bought new a new table runner, busted our ass to clean our house from top to bottom, and entertained our little hearts out.  The menu consisted of:

Appetizer - salami and assorted cheese platter with wheat crackers
Salad - Belgian Endive Salad with goat cheese, dried cranberries, pecans, and homemade dressing
Main Course - BBQ Chicken (with BBQ sauce made from scratch), corn bread, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, and mashed potatoes (with bacon, chives, and sour cream mixed in)
Dessert - Black Forest Cherry Chocolate Mousse - made with very expensive dark chocolate.

It couldn't have gone better....  I'm resolving to host more of these types of things at my house in the near future.

The rest of my weekend was pretty low-key.  Friday I went shopping and out for Indian food with Fran - always great to catch up with him.  Stopped by Beth Y.'s house party for a bit on Saturday after the dinner party - wasn't really feeling the huge crowd so bowed out early to hang out at my place with just a few friends instead.  Sunday celebrated Mush's birthday at Lauriol Plaza.  I think the best possible reason to go there is for the drinks, which are delicious (though i didn't get to drink last night).  The food is just okay - but it's cheap, so I can't complain.  Really it was just great to catch up with those friends that I rarely get to see and to help Marsha celebrate turning 25 for the 10th time.  Afterwards I went to Stafford to see my parents.  My mom had left her phone at my house the night before, but really it ended up being a great excuse to get out of the city.  I didn't know it when I volunteered to drive it down to her - but I needed a couple of hours with just me and my radio.  It gives me a chance to unwind and de-stress.  Even though I love not having a driving commute anymore, I love to drive and I love having alone time...  both of which I had missed more than I thought.

Phill - whenever you get around to reading this post, please recommend some good places to learn how to rock climb.  We talked for a bit about this on Saturday, but I'm not sure you'll remember ;-)
